The “500 KV Transmission Line from Dashte Alwan, Pul-e Khumri to Arghandy, Kabul” is a landmark project in Afghanistan’s energy sector, led by the Ministry of Energy and Water and implemented by Awfi Bahram. This initiative enhances the nation’s transmission capacity and supports renewable energy integration by connecting northern and southern regions.
High-Voltage Transmission Line
Spanning approximately 225 kilometers through the Hindukush mountain range, the project ensures a reliable and efficient power supply across Afghanistan.
Substation Construction
A new 500 kV / 220 kV substation in Kabul will interconnect the existing grid with the new transmission line, boosting capacity between northern and southern regions and improving energy security.
Capacity Contribution
The project will increase Afghanistan’s transmission capacity by adding 1,000 MW to 2,300 MW to the current 300 MW, enabling better utilization of domestic hydropower and fossil fuel resources while reducing reliance on imports.
Impact
This project strengthens Afghanistan’s energy infrastructure, fostering regional connectivity, economic growth, and industrial development. Its completion marks a step toward a sustainable, reliable energy system and improved quality of life for the country’s people.
